Another fantastic volume in the Monstress saga。 Slightly slower in pace than previous volumes but let's many of the sub characters breath and bring out further elements of the plot。 There is still so much to resolve in this series I hope they give it the space rather than try to bring things to a close too quickly。 More would definitely be more in this world Another fantastic volume in the Monstress saga。 Slightly slower in pace than previous volumes but let's many of the sub characters breath and bring out further elements of the plot。 There is still so much to resolve in this series I hope they give it the space rather than try to bring things to a close too quickly。 More would definitely be more in this world 。。。more

I look forward to receiving the next volume of Monstress every year and I think this is possibly the best volume yet。 The plot became less confusing as the various strands and the relationships between characters came together。 Maika was still the main character but seemed a bit less central as the war between the courts unfolded and we hear more about the surrounding characters。 The illustrations are of outstanding quality as always with this amazing series。 I find myself drawn to gaze at the p I look forward to receiving the next volume of Monstress every year and I think this is possibly the best volume yet。 The plot became less confusing as the various strands and the relationships between characters came together。 Maika was still the main character but seemed a bit less central as the war between the courts unfolded and we hear more about the surrounding characters。 The illustrations are of outstanding quality as always with this amazing series。 I find myself drawn to gaze at the pictures far more than with other graphic novels I've read。 But what is going to happen next and how long will the series go on for?! I'm very curious to see what kind of ending the authors come up with。 。。。more

Really diving into origins and backstory now。 Still maintaining excellence and anxiously awaiting word on new issues。

I'm not as into this series as I used to be。 I feel like the novelty has worn off and I'm not that interested in where it's gone。 It's also not as visually stunning as it used to be。 Or maybe it's just that I don't remember where I left off。 I'll still finish it because I'm invested but I don't think it has sustained the momentum it had in the beginning。 I'm not as into this series as I used to be。 I feel like the novelty has worn off and I'm not that interested in where it's gone。 It's also not as visually stunning as it used to be。 Or maybe it's just that I don't remember where I left off。 I'll still finish it because I'm invested but I don't think it has sustained the momentum it had in the beginning。 。。。more

4。5One of my favourite volumes。 The art is incredible and on the top of all the expectations。Somehow I expected that the series will start go to the conclusions and finale, but a new arc opened, sci-fi meets the fantasy futuristic world。 New faces and names, new secrets, new motivations introduced。 The series going deep and wide。 What to expect next?

I love how the series builds its world so gradually that each volume feels both like both a natural progression and a revelation。 What we learn about Zinn and their origins in this volume is beautiful, though everything felt much dreamier and slower for understandable reasons。 I'm looking forward to what I hope will be a dynamic volume to follow。 I love how the series builds its world so gradually that each volume feels both like both a natural progression and a revelation。 What we learn about Zinn and their origins in this volume is beautiful, though everything felt much dreamier and slower for understandable reasons。 I'm looking forward to what I hope will be a dynamic volume to follow。 。。。more

4 and a half stars。 collecting issues #36-41。 this is always such a big deal, when a new Monstress arrives。 the power and the scope of the story, the revelations about the characters, and the complexly beautiful art on every page, make this a wondrous original series。 i hope it never ends。

While I still love this series because it has beautiful artwork and extremely creative world building, I'm somewhat frustrated because the plotting and characters are so byzantine that every time a new collection comes out, I always have to re-read the last 2 preceding volumes just to make heads or tails of what's going While I still love this series because it has beautiful artwork and extremely creative world building, I'm somewhat frustrated because the plotting and characters are so byzantine that every time a new collection comes out, I always have to re-read the last 2 preceding volumes just to make heads or tails of what's going 。。。more

Everything about this volume feels like it's building up to an epic climax。 We get backstory on the Baroness, the Ancients, and the Servators, and others like Corvin, plus time in Maika's head and a few peaks at private inner workings usually withheld from even the reader。 The players are gathering together and all seem to have their eye on Maika。 The moment Kippa sees Ren is priceless。 I really enjoyed the quiet yet ominous atmosphere。 Everything about this volume feels like it's building up to an epic climax。 We get backstory on the Baroness, the Ancients, and the Servators, and others like Corvin, plus time in Maika's head and a few peaks at private inner workings usually withheld from even the reader。 The players are gathering together and all seem to have their eye on Maika。 The moment Kippa sees Ren is priceless。 I really enjoyed the quiet yet ominous atmosphere。 。。。more

It always surprises me how much worse things can get in this universe, as well as how much hope can still change the game when it arises。 So looking forward to the next one。

This graphic novel was great! I loved getting inside Maika's mind, and the imagery was absolutely powerful throughout。 The intrigue and plots kept the story interesting and moving along at a nice clip, and the characters practically jumped off the pages。 As always, the illustrations were absolutely gorgeous and the writing was fabulous。 I highly recommend this volume and this graphic novel series。 This graphic novel was great! Monstress's seventh volume is the introspective one, quite literally。 Maika finds herself trapped in her own head, while the politics of the Courts moves on around her, and Kippa does all she can to save everyone despite being a two foot tall fox baby。 Given that we only tend to get a few issues of Monstress a year, it's easy to feel a bit shortchanged by this arc since there isn't a lot in the way of forward momentum, but we do get glimpses of everyone's true allegiances, as well as the larger Monstress's seventh volume is the introspective one, quite literally。 Maika finds herself trapped in her own head, while the politics of the Courts moves on around her, and Kippa does all she can to save everyone despite being a two foot tall fox baby。 Given that we only tend to get a few issues of Monstress a year, it's easy to feel a bit shortchanged by this arc since there isn't a lot in the way of forward momentum, but we do get glimpses of everyone's true allegiances, as well as the larger picture that Marjorie Liu is painting for the world of Monstress。 The artwork remains beautiful, of course, because Sana Takeda can do no wrong。 We do get a few splash pages that are entirely black, but they do make sense in terms of the story so we'll let her off for that one。Monstress takes a breather, but even when the wheels aren't turning as fast, there's still plenty of fun and revelations to be had。 。。。more

2。5I think this is my least favourite volume so far。 The pacing definitely takes a backseat compared to the previous war-oriented volumes, and much of the storyline is filled with Maika's internal struggles and looks at what other characters were doing during that time。 I definitely disliked that, because it feels like a filler volume, and having in mind that this is the seventh year this is story is being published in, I think it's safe to say that maybe it drags on for a bit to long, and that 2。5I think this is my least favourite volume so far。 The pacing definitely takes a backseat compared to the previous war-oriented volumes, and much of the storyline is filled with Maika's internal struggles and looks at what other characters were doing during that time。 I definitely disliked that, because it feels like a filler volume, and having in mind that this is the seventh year this is story is being published in, I think it's safe to say that maybe it drags on for a bit to long, and that I'm ready to see the final countdown。 The artstyle continues to be utterly astonishing, and these story arcs are where Sana Takeda's skills become completely flawless。 。。。more

Betrayed by the Baroness, Maika has been incapacitated by the Dusk Court, in hopes to find a way to use her as a weapon。 Fighting to come back to herself, she will learn more about Zinn’s past and her own。 There are those that are wanting to help though, like Kippa and Lord Corvin, but the Blood Court and Maika’s father also still want her for their own plots。 Will all their efforts be enough to bring Maika back? You know, I didn't want to say that I thought Takeda's art was slacking in the last two volumes because maybe her style was just shifting, but nope, she's back, this was beautiful and the story was good to match as we finally meet the Dusk Court and see how Maika's power was awakened to awful effect。 CW: for particularly graphic gore in this one。 You know, I didn't want to say that I thought Takeda's art was slacking in the last two volumes because maybe her style was just shifting, but nope, she's back, this was beautiful and the story was good to match as we finally meet the Dusk Court and see how Maika's power was awakened to awful effect。 CW: for particularly graphic gore in this one。 。。。more

Phenomenal。 I have always loved this series, but volume 7 is by far my favourite and arguably the most powerful entry to date。While Maika is still a central character fighting her own mind, much of the story is devoted to the side characters。 Each one has a strong moment, particularly Tuya, Kippa, and my favourite, Corvin。We’re introduced to more elements of the Dusk Court and those working against it。 Nothing about this novel is simple, from its themes to its setting to its world and content。 T Phenomenal。 I have always loved this series, but volume 7 is by far my favourite and arguably the most powerful entry to date。While Maika is still a central character fighting her own mind, much of the story is devoted to the side characters。 Each one has a strong moment, particularly Tuya, Kippa, and my favourite, Corvin。We’re introduced to more elements of the Dusk Court and those working against it。 Nothing about this novel is simple, from its themes to its setting to its world and content。 This is a grim book。 Yet, near the end when the need is most dire, there is a much needed undercurrent of hope。 The world building and introduction of new characters makes this a complex read that requires a lot of attention。 Nonetheless, it is a powerful story and worth every high fantasy reader’s time。 And the art style… Sana Takeda has always been enormously talented, but in this entry she has truly stepped up her game。 It is beautiful in every sense of the word。I was sad when the book ended because I am desperate for more。 There is so much going on, so much to discover, that I can hardly wait for the next entry。 One of my favourite reads of 2022 and still my favourite graphic novel series of all time。 。。。more

This more than any other comic has suffered the most from me transitioning to reading the trades volume by volume than picking up an issue each month because the world is so fleshed out and when I spend my few hours in it every nine months or so I have inevitably forgotten A LOT, but just as inevitably I’m blown away by every volume。 Such a good book with so many styles and tones and vibes。 Love it。 One of these days I will sit down and reread this series in quicker succession and discover all s This more than any other comic has suffered the most from me transitioning to reading the trades volume by volume than picking up an issue each month because the world is so fleshed out and when I spend my few hours in it every nine months or so I have inevitably forgotten A LOT, but just as inevitably I’m blown away by every volume。 Such a good book with so many styles and tones and vibes。 Love it。 One of these days I will sit down and reread this series in quicker succession and discover all sorts of nooks and crannies that I’m sure have eluded me as I’m reading it now and I can’t wait。 Well I mean I can wait because I’m not doing it right this second。 But you know。 。。。more

Ren and Kippa! 😭💚The world building is perhaps a little more shaky here as the plot escalates。 But overall, Monstress is still one of the best ongoing fantasy comics。

After the war stories that filled the previous couple of volumes, things slow down a bit to give the plot a bit of breathing room。 We finally get introduced to some major players of the Dusk Court, and how they operate。 We also have , Maika and Zinn out of commission, but battling inside of their mind to regain consciousness。 Kippa reunites with Ren, which was a very nice moment, and finally Tuya seems to be in over her head at this point。 I really appreciate that Marjorie Liu takes the time to After the war stories that filled the previous couple of volumes, things slow down a bit to give the plot a bit of breathing room。 We finally get introduced to some major players of the Dusk Court, and how they operate。 We also have , Maika and Zinn out of commission, but battling inside of their mind to regain consciousness。 Kippa reunites with Ren, which was a very nice moment, and finally Tuya seems to be in over her head at this point。 I really appreciate that Marjorie Liu takes the time to slow things down and kind of reset a bit。 In all honesty the last volumes were a bit chaotic, and confusing at times。 Unfortunately there is a bit of pacing issues with this volume, as things transition from Maika's mind to the real world quite often and quite jarringly。 The art however is back to the top notch level it was before the war volumes。 It was awesome to see Sana Takeda back to full form, as the war volumes were much messier and seemed rushed - in terms of art。 Here we have the beautiful pattern work that she has displayed in past volumes in full effect again, and the book looks great for it。 I'm still onboard with this book, but the plot seems to be meandering a tiny bit。 Let's see what the next volume holds for the Maika, Kippa and the rest of the crew。 。。。more

We're finally getting some answers and I'm here for it。 Will continue to read for the gorgeous art (and because I've made it this far haha) in hopes that the plot doesn't meander again。 There's been more momentum and cohesiveness in the past few issues, and it really shows。 We're finally getting some answers and I'm here for it。 Will continue to read for the gorgeous art (and because I've made it this far haha) in hopes that the plot doesn't meander again。 There's been more momentum and cohesiveness in the past few issues, and it really shows。 。。。more
